Osmosis Grants Program logomark

The goal of the Osmosis Grants Program is to improve the long-term utility of Osmosis and to create a robust ecosystem of incentivized contributors.

Grants will be awarded to teams and individuals who are building value-add projects, such as analytics, tooling, infrastructure, and ecosystem projects that are complementary to the core AMM.

Grants

MilkyWay
The OGP will provide a grant of $120k in OSMO to MilkWay for the development of their liquid staking protocol on Osmosis. In exchange for this grant, MilkyWay has agreed to the following terms: 1) MilkyWay will provide the Osmosis DAO (Community Pool) with MILK tokens worth $120k (100K + 20% premium) at the time they raise and the Community Pool will receive the full amount at launch, 2) 3% of MILK LP incentives will be exclusively reserved for Osmosis liquidity pools, 3) to avoid confusion with other liquid staking products, MilkyWay will not use "st" in their ticker for any of their liquid staking tokens, 4) MilkyWay will not launch on mainnet until after the completion of the Oak Security audit and resolution of all findings. The grant milestones are as follows: Milkyway mainnet launch on Osmosis (milestone 1), token generation event of Milkyway's native token, MILK (milestone 2).

Apps
IBC Observability, Security, and Research
To build 1) public observability dashboards to monitor the real-time state of Osmosis pools and IBC flows, 2) a monitoring, alerting, and anomaly detection suite for Osmosis’ IBC rate limits, and 3) to perform research on IBC rate limits to improve and extend their functionality. Milestone 1 = at completion of the public observability dashboards; Milestone 2 = at completion of the monitoring suite for IBC rate limits; Milestone 3 = delivery of research report on IBC rate limits.

Tooling
Cosmos Integration with Metamask
To add Metamask support for the Cosmos ecosystem in their initial, permissioned launch of Metamask Snaps – an open source system that will allow anyone to extend the functionality of MetaMask. This integration will allow Metamask users to sign Cosmos transactions with their existing accounts. Integrating the Cosmos ecosystem with Metamask will be a huge unlock, as it will give Metamask's ~20M users access to the Cosmos ecosystem in one go.

Mesh Security Phase 1: Back-End Development
Confio will focus on protocol design and backend development. Initially, Confio will focus on refining and documenting the design and architecture, to enable all contributors to be effective and coordinate their work. Once the plan is clear, Confio will take responsibility for the development of all needed smart contracts (with some help from external contributors) as well as the custom SDK module(s) for proper interaction with staking on the remote chain. Phase 1 Milestones (Phase 1 refers to the first 3 months following the start of the project): Milestone 1 = Delivery of a detailed Mesh Security architecture document; Milestone 2 = Integration of the Mesh Security MVP into the Osmosis and Juno codebases and demonstrating functionality on a devnet.

Infrastructure
Fee Abstraction
To build two different version of the Fee Abstraction Module. The first version will allow customer chains to pay fees in any IBC token on Osmosis using oracle TWAP data (Milestone 1). The second version will leverage packet forward middleware to allow chains to take the accumulated fees and swap them for their native token using Osmosis (Milestone 2). Notional will also assist the Osmosis team with the chain-specific technical implementations. We will award Notional with retroactive grants for each chain-specific implementation, depending on the work involved and importance of the customer chain.

Custom MEV Module
To build an in-protocol custom MEV module for Osmosis that aims to capture and distribute MEV to Osmosis participants. Note that the delivery of the grant is conditional upon governance approval. The milestones are as follows: Milestone 1 = delivery of MVP on Osmosis testnet with at least 10-20 validator partners; Milestone 2 = mainnet launch with integration of all validators.

Frequently Asked
Qs

What is the Osmosis Grants Program?

The Osmosis Grants Program (OGP) was created to award $5k-$500k of funding to Osmosis community members for the completion of value-add tasks which may be too small to be funded through a governance proposal.

We believe the community needs to start spending the Community Pool’s funds aggressively to encourage experimentation and innovation, grow the ecosystem, and onboard full-time contributors that could increase the value of the protocol by hundreds of millions of dollars.

A grants program is an efficient, low cost way to do this – by empowering community participants and supporting teams building applications which leverage the Osmosis stack.

How do I apply?

This grants program was designed to be fast and efficient for applicants while still allowing enough time for proper diligence. The goal is to have most grants funded within ~2-3 weeks of applying:

1. Apply: Submit an application to the OGP by filling out the application form. Include as many details as possible in your application about your project and how it would benefit Osmosis.

2. Interview: If your application is a good fit, a member of the Grants team will contact the email provided in your application with clarifying questions and schedule an interview to further assess quality, value-add, as well as to sort out the details.

3. Grants team approval: The Grants team will review the additional information and further diligence the application. If the Grants team decides to approve your application, it will be sent to the Reviewer Committee for final approval.

4. Reviewer Committee approval: The Reviewer Committee will perform a final review of the application. If approved, it will be included in the next batch of grants.

How will I be compensated?

The Program Lead will work with you to establish possible milestones that could help split up the compensation so as to allow payment whenever a milestone is hit. If no milestones can be determined, the Grant will be paid a portion upfront to cover initial costs and the remaining total once the grant is successfully completed.

All payments will be made in OSMO or USDC.

If you would like to get paid in OSMO and are asking for a fixed dollar amount of compensation, the number of OSMO you will receive will be determined by the price of OSMO at the time of payment.

Can I apply as a U.S. based person/company?

Yes!

Please note that all applicants who are located in the United States will receive payments in USDC instead of OSMO (due to legal concerns).

What type of project will qualify for a grant?

Anything that benefits Osmosis’ product and/or its community!

There are numerous functions that can be funded through grants, such as analytics, tooling, infrastructure, growth and many more. Furthermore, the OGP will also fund ecosystem projects that are complementary to the core product of Osmosis, such as DeFi apps leveraging Osmosis’ AMMs and Osmosis-themed gaming/NFT projects. Check out the Request for Proposals list for inspiration!

We are hoping to fund a wide range of grants, from simple projects to more elaborate and longer-term projects. The funding amount will vary to reflect the complexity.

How does the OGP handle conflicts of interest?

The Osmosis Grants Program (“OGP”) is a subDAO whose mandate is to allocate funding towards community members and contributors. The OGP consists of a Grants Lead and a multi-sig committee made up of individual community members, validators, investors, and founders.

Participants within the OGP are expected to disclose all conflicts of interests they have.

— Specifically, conflicts should be transparently disclosed to other members of the OGP and disclosed in funding batch announcements.
— If a multi-sig signer has a conflict, they should notify the OGP and abstain from participating in the grant approval process. If signers are conflicted, the majority vote will determine the outcome of the grant (e.g. if only 5 of 7 signers participate due to a conflict, 3 signers constitute the majority).
— If the OGP Grants Lead has a conflict, they should notify the multi-sig signers, reassign the funding decision to a different OGP member, and abstain from participating in the approval process for the applicable grant.
— All funding recommendations should be handled by a non-conflicted member of the OGP.

The OGP has historically conducted itself in this manner. This policy lays it out formally for all current and future OGP contributors.
