Batch 16: Approved Grants

8.31.23

We're excited to announce the approval of Batch 16 of grants! In this batch we have three grants for a total of $105k in funding. As always, we share more info on each grant below, including project descriptions and funding terms.

This batch includes two different infrastructure grants that serve to enhance Osmosis’ performance and user experience:

  • Infrastructure costs and performance requirements in Cosmos are high as infra providers have to build support for each chain individually and interchain activity places heavy strain on nodes. Newmetric will provide RPC services with significant, enterprise-grade performance enhancements at a reasonable cost.
  • Noah will add iframe passthrough functionality to Cosmos Kit so that users can navigate through the Osmosis App Store without having to reconnect their wallets each time. This will function similarly to Safe's iframe-based viewer that allows seamless integration between its library of apps and users’ smart contract accounts.

Lastly, DeFine Logic Labs will create several managed vault strategies for Osmosis’ supercharged liquidity pools. This incredibly useful tooling will optimize yield for users who are new to concentrated liquidity or just want to passively LP instead of actively managing their LP positions.

Newmetric

Infrastructure
Funding Amount

$60,000 (in OSMO)

Applicant

Jesse Chung

Upfront

$10,000 (in OSMO)

Completion

$50,000 (in OSMO)

Newmetric will build and provide high performance RPCs for Cosmos. This grant will cover the build as well as one year of enterprise support of RPCs (which will be archival by default) for Osmosis testnet/mainnet and Mars mainnet.

We are confident that with Newmetric, Osmosis dApps, wallets, dashboards, and other third party developers will experience significant performance enhancements and decreased latency compared to existing nodes, with unlimited scalability made available by customized edge computation technology. This will not only significantly enhance the UX of Osmosis and its applications, but also allow dApp developers to focus on their application logic rather than the underlying infrastructure. Newmetric is a new company focused on blockchain RPC development, cloud-native solutions, and cutting-edge infrastructure management.

Interactive dApp Passthrough

Infrastructure
Funding Amount

20,000 USDC

Applicant

Noah Saso

Upfront

5,000 USDC

Completion

15,000 USDC

This project aims to implement iframe passthrough functionality into Cosmos Kit such that all dApps in the Osmosis App store can automatically support this embedding after an upgrade.

With this project's implementation, Osmosis will enable users to engage with various dApps through iframes without the need to leave the site or having to reconnect their wallets each time. Thus, when a user logs into Osmosis, they will instantaneously gain access to every dApp they want to use without having to figure out many different potentially-buggy connection interfaces, streamlining the overall experience. This enhancement will also permit dApps to elevate their user experience by wrapping other applications as needed, thereby offering a layer of integration previously unseen. Noah is a core contributor and lead engineer of DAO DAO, and helped build the core logic of Cosmos Kit, initially as a fork of cosmodal. Since then he have built a wallet adapter for Cosmos Kit and submitted bug fix PRs.

In partnership with the OGP and Quasar Finance, DLL will launch a series of vaults on Osmosis in two phases. Milestone 1: The first phase will include two managed vault options for the top five pools on Osmosis by volume (excluding stable/like pairs). The vault options will be two forms of range management, moderate plus (9.5% - 30% range of spot price) and aggressive plus (1.5% - 15% range of spot price). The five starting pools will be proposed based on Osmosis' historical swap volumes from the last two quarters. Milestone 2: The second phase will include the creation of vaults for the top five “like pairs” (LST and Stablecoin pairs). These vaults will use a tight tick optimization strategy to maximize yield for like pairs. Examples of potential pairs here could include stATOM/ATOM, qATOM/ATOM, stOSMO/OSMO, IST/USDC, USDT/USDC.

These vaults will allow users who are new to concentrated liquidity or just want to passively LP have their positioned actively managed to optimize yield while enjoying the price appreciation of the underlying assets. DeFine Logic Labs are DeFi yield strategists with years of experience in both traditional finance and Web3 space. They work with a number of Hedge Funds, Family Offices, Investment DAOs, and protocols like Sommelier where they built the Real Yield ETH vault, which has generated more than $500M trading volume to date.
